The Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) is gearing up for its next colossal event—Avengers: Doomsday—and fans are in for the ultimate showdown! Marvel Studios and AGBO have officially announced that production is underway for the much-anticipated fifth installment in the Avengers saga, following the epic events of Avengers: Endgame (2019).
Set to hit theaters on May 1, 2026, Avengers: Doomsday is part of Phase Six of the MCU and will set the stage for the even bigger sequel, Avengers: Secret Wars (2027). But before the multiverse shatters completely, Earth’s Mightiest Heroes will face their most dangerous adversary yet—Doctor Doom.
🎬 A Russo Brothers Comeback!
Directors Anthony and Joe Russo return to the Avengers franchise after helming the blockbuster hits Infinity War and Endgame. With a screenplay penned by Michael Waldron (Loki, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness) and Endgame co-writer Stephen McFeely, Avengers: Doomsday is set to be a game-changer for the MCU.
With Doctor Doom stepping into the villain spotlight, the film shifts away from the Kang storyline following the departure of Jonathan Majors. Instead, the MCU’s most intelligent and ruthless villain will take center stage, bringing an unmatched level of power, strategy, and danger to the Avengers.

🦹♂️ Doctor Doom: A New Kind of Villain
Doctor Doom has long been one of Marvel’s most iconic and feared villains. But this time, he’s not just a villain—he’s a conqueror, strategist, and sorcerer unlike anything the Avengers have ever faced.
Co-director Joe Russo describes Doom as "one of the most complex comic book characters ever written." He believes Robert Downey Jr. is the only actor who could bring this multifaceted role to life.
Instead of playing Doom as a typical villain, Downey has crafted a detailed backstory for the character and even contributed costume design ideas. This new take on Doom will be unlike any version we’ve seen before.
🛠️ Production & Filming Details
Filming began in March 2025 at Pinewood Studios in England.
Production will continue through August 2025, with massive action sequences featuring the largest ensemble cast in MCU history.
This film will set the stage for Avengers: Secret Wars, releasing in 2027.
